Shelter follows a brother and sister, Billy Dawson (Jamie Chadwick) and Jessica Dawson (Acacia Brea Hill), as they cope with the aftermath of their father's suicide. As the children find themselves accidentally homeless and alone, they attempt to journey from their home in Campbell River, across the west coast of Vancouver Island, allowing the film to take advantage of the scenery of the region. Shelter is a touching and uplifting film project[citation needed] that balances humor and tragedy, stirring emotions and forcing us[who?] all to take another look at the people and circumstances we all take for granted.
